Carat weight: 1 carat = 200 milligrams = 6.5 mm diameter. Doubling weight doesn't double diameter.
Diamond clarity: FL/IF/VVS/VS = super expensive, near perfect. SI = best value if you can check a photo for obvious inclusions (defects).
Color: D-G = colorless, expensive, only if you have money to burn. H-J = best value. Can go lower in gold metal settings than white metal.
Cut: Better cut ratings let more light into a diamond, making it sparkle more. Very important property, don't skimp here.

Pink Diamond Rings

So about the color first – pink is traditionally a very feminine color. Think about what many hospitals dress newborn babies in – the boys get dressed in blue, and the girls get dressed in pink! It’s also a ‘pretty’ color, although I do know a few people who think that the wrong shade of pink is a disgusting. No such worries with a pink diamond however.
Pink diamonds that occur naturally are rare and more expensive. When you shop for one you’ll want to pick one that’s been irradiated – which makes sure the color sticks around and isn’t temporary. Some of the cheaper pink diamonds you’ll see have probably been color coated, which is no guarantee of color longevity.
They’re generally going be more expensive than ‘normal’ white diamonds. A cheaper option is a pink sapphire, which is something you want to consider if your budget doesn’t stretch to get you an acceptable pink diamond. Pink sapphires are also natural.
